We’re suckers for live sports, so when the chance came to catch an Aussie Rules Footy match, we didn’t hesitate! We headed into Melbourne with Trent and met up with his mates at Etihad Stadium (now known as Marvel Stadium) for a night of fast-paced, high-flying action.

Aussie Rules is like a mix of football, rugby, and chaos—beautifully choreographed chaos! If you’re new to the sport, here’s a beginner’s guide to Australian Football that breaks down the basics. Dave was locked in on the field, watching every mark and bounce, while I soaked in the electric atmosphere of the crowd. Absolutely infectious! My favorite part? The giant pompoms waving at each end of the field? Why don’t we have these at home?!

The real show-stealer for me, though, might’ve been the boundary umpires. Every time the ball went out of bounds, they’d whip it back in with the most dramatic backwards throw—neck-snapping flair included. Who knew officiating could be performance art?

We were cheering on the Roos (North Melbourne Football Club), and while the scoreboard didn’t go our way, the night was a total win.
